FOOD_Iowa Hunger Summit

CLARITY. CONNECTION. COMMUNITY.

Mark your calendar to support Urban Ambassadors and Iowans with fighting hunger and attend this year's Iowa Hunger Summit October 11 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
ABOUT: The World Food Prize Foundation established the Iowa Hunger Summit as a means to celebrate Iowa's great successes in fighting hunger and poverty and to unite in further action against both.

The Iowa Hunger Summit, first held in 2007, seeks to gather leaders from across Iowa representing community organizations, business and industry, state and local government, social agencies, churches and religious communities, schools and universities, and other groups that lead or participate in projects to confront hunger.

The specific goals of the Hunger Summit are:
  • To celebrate the many outstanding efforts of Iowans toward ensuring adequate food for all;
  • To encourage Iowans to continue and expand these efforts; and
  • To increase statewide awareness of hunger, poverty, and related issues.
Each year, World Food Prize officials contact organizations and individuals around Iowa to gather information on anti-hunger projects held in the past year and tabulate the total amount that Iowans have donated, collected, or contributed toward fighting hunger. This amount is announced at the “Hunger Luncheon,” which features meals by hunger fighting organizations and an inspirational keynote speech on hunger-related issues.

FOOD_Scavo Urban Garden Seed Project Update

CLARITY. CONNECTION. COMMUNITY.

We need volunteers TONIGHT from 6-7:30 p.m. to help with weeding the garden.  The kids are great to work with and their excitement is contagious!  It is so rewarding to witness the growth in the garden each week.  Thanks for your support.
We are collaborating with Community! Youth Concepts to support an urban garden for students from Scavo Alternative School in Des Moines.  We have planted fruit, vegetables and flowers in hopes that the students will learn the gardening process and the benefits it provides as well as how to use, sell and share them with their community.  The students plan to donate the produce from the garden to Move the Food.  The garden is located at 3275 52nd St. in Des Moines.
Our health depends upon the fresh produce we feed it.
